Rachel Abbott, independent author and publisher of the thriller “Only the Innocent”, today reached the coveted number one position in the Amazon Kindle charts with her debut novel with a zero marketing budget.
“Only the Innocent” was launched for the Kindle and other e-readers on 18th November 2011. Author Rachel Abbott had completed her debut novel some twelve months previously and it had been sitting on a virtual shelf until Abbott decided to “have a go” at publishing for the Kindle. She had no agent, no sales platform, and no marketing budget – just the bare outlines of a website and any empty Twitter stream. Just three months and one day later, it is at number one in the Kindle charts on Amazon UK.
When I decided to publish my novel as an e-book, I thought it was going to be SO easy! I checked it out on Amazon, and thought that I just needed to make a few edits to my WORD document, and then just upload it. All done in a couple of days, I thought. But then I started to take it a bit more seriously, and all of a sudden I am drowning.
This is the new blog of Rachel Abbott – a writer, and I’m just about to publish my first book using various e-book formats.
I previously had a blog, but first of all the design just simply disappeared, and then to my horror the blog was hacked and filled with porn. It was quarantined by Google, and the best outcome seemed to be to delete and start all over again.
The next blog will be about the start of the e-book process, and I hope to update the blog constantly to record the ease or otherwise of getting the perfect e-book.
